Get your Ready Itinerary

Are you crazily in love with lush green and backwaters pictures of Kerala? We've outlined a crisp travel plan for you to explore this super-green place surrounded by palm trees. But needed help finding a proper itinerary for the place?

We know in this era of hustling; you may not have time for a 15 days trip. You may need more time to complete a 7-day Kerala trip plan. That's why we have shortened our itinerary and shared it so that you will not feel confused or overwhelmed when you'll plan your trip at your convenience.

Day 1: Arrival at Kochi

On the first day of your trip, land at Cochin airport and rest. You can have a trail to some nearby lanes and alleys of Kochi. It would help if you explored Fort Kochi, Chinese Fishing Nets, the Pardesi Synagogue and Mattancherry Palace. If you have enough time, watch the Kathakali dance show in Kochi.

Day 2: Kochi to Munnar

Head up to the Munnar hill station, a real paradise of rolling hills. The waterfalls and tea gardens will make you stop on your way to Munnar. On the way to Munnar, drop-dead Valara & Cheeyapara waterfalls will mesmerize you with their beauty. Your photos in these spots will be fantastic. You can taste the Kerala Feasts on the traditional banana leaves to enjoy the authenticity of the place. You should book a hotel to stay in at night in Munnar.

Day 3: Places to Visit in Munnar

Munnar is one of the best places in your whole Kerala trip. It will fill your bucket of memories with its vividness. You can visit Rajamalai National Park, Mattupetty dam, Echo Point, Kundala Dam, Blossom Park, Tea Museum and many more. Return to the hotel and start your journey to Thekkady the next day. If you can stay another day in Munnar, you can visit christ church, Punarjarni, for Kerala Martial Arts; Kalaripayattu Show and Lakkam falls.

Day 4: Way to Thekkady

After enjoying the lovely cold weather in Munnar, head back down to the warm southern part of Kerala- Thekkady. On the way to Thekaddy, you will see spice plantations and even have fun with an elephant safari. Stay overnight and have dinner at Thekkady Hotel.

Day 5: Sail Down to the Backwaters of Alleppey

Alleppey, or Alappuzha, is a place all nature lovers have always wanted to visit once in a lifetime. We recommend you opt for the Shikara boat, drive to Varkala beach, and spend the night in the hotel of Varkala. It would be best if you stayed in the houseboat in Alleppey to hear the ripples of the backwaters. Or you can sail down the Alleppy backwaters on a Shikara Boat to feel a natural beauty and then spend your night at a homestay/ hotel in Alleppey.

Day 6: Explore the Beauty of Varkala Beach

In Varkala beach's long and golden coastal line, get amazed by a stunning backdrop of red laterite cliffs. Visit the Varkala Lighthouse, Kilimanoor palace, and Anjengo Fort if possible. If you're a heritage lover, the ancient Janardhanaswamy Temple of Lord Vishnu will undoubtedly steal your heart.

Day 7: Cherai Beach

From Varkala, head back to Cherai Beach. Surrounded by thick coconut groves, Cherai Beach or "The Princess of the Arabian Sea", is located 30 KM from Cochin. You can visit the nearby Dolphin spotting cruise, nearby lighthouses and temples.

Apart from sightseeing activities, it's a place for rest and relaxation with a calm beachfront. Enjoy the palm-fringed beach and its sunset there in the evening.

Day 8: Fly back home.

Get around to Some Ready-destinations

Kochi: Don't get confused between the names - Kochi and Cochin. Both are referred to the same place. The British colonizers used Cochin. It was the main spice trading centre of India. From Mattancherry Synagogue to the Chinese fishing net, Kochin carried the heritage of Indian history with Chinese emperors and British Commonwealth.

Munnar: 1.5 km outside of town, Munnar is the house of rolling hills and tea plantations of south India. The freshly-brewed tea from the serene tea estates will enhance the beauty of the place.

Alleppy: Alappuzha or Alleppey is the home of the famous backwaters of Kerala. The balance of an intricate network of inland canals and backwaters with a fantastic experience on a houseboat can take you to a silently rippling natural haven. Once, a small fishing village became one of India's most visited tourist destinations.

If you want to book your Kerala tour package, look for the destinations mentioned above. But you must customize your tour plan if you are still waiting to get 7-8 days of approved leave. Try to incorporate as many places as you can into the trip plan.

Your To-do List is Ready!

Take a Houseboat Trip on Backwaters

A lazy ride on kettuvallam or a houseboat completes your Kerala holiday. The shikhara and houseboats were used in transporting rice and spices. You can stay at night on the luxury houseboats also.

Enjoy the Folk Performances

Kathakali is an ancient folk dance that originated in the 17th century and is a pride of south Indian culture. Get a taste of this dance form filled with storytelling and heritage in the Kathakali Dance shows. You can get thrilled with the Kalaripayattu, a martial art form of India. The performance would be so engaging that you will always feel energized.

Get Delighted with Kerala Cuisines

The delicious Keralan cuisine would leave you awe-struct. The fine balance of spice, delicate seasoning and the taste of coconut milk fill the dishes with heavenly love. 80% of the population in this state is Hindu, but Muslims and Christians are also dominant in the place to make its flavour more interesting. You can relish both veg and non-veg cuisines. There are restaurants specially labelled for vegies, and others are labelled as non-veg. So, choose the restaurants wisely before ordering random dishes. Some of our recommendations are Appam with Stew, beef or Chicken fry with Malabar Porotta and Prawn Moilee.

Feel the Cultural Amalgamation with Heritage

You can rent a scooter and explore the cultural vividness in different places of Kerala. From Jew Town Fort in Kochi to the Hindu temples, the cultural amalgamation influences your holiday in Kerala.

When is the Destination Ready to Welcome you?

You can visit Kerala any season of the year, but winter is the best time to visit Kerala. From October to February, the temperature is mild, around 17-30 degrees Celsius. So, book your Kerala honeymoon package or tour at this time.

March to June is the off-season, but you'll enjoy the sea dipping at this time. So this is the best time to bargain and get cheap deals.

In the monsoon (July to September), you can feel Kerala's lush, splendid natural beauty.

Some Ready Tips from Us

  • The best way to travel to Kerala is by air. As this state is situated in the southern part of the country, it is best to travel by flight.

  • You can buy excellent jewellery and traditional Kasavu Sari from the market. The coconut shell carvings, fragrant sandalwood figurines and spices of Kerala are some recommendations from our side.

  • Alcohol is uncommon in this state. So, if you're interested in alcoholic beverages, Kerala can disappoint you.

  • Language can be a problem while communicating in interior places. In bigger cities, you can communicate in English and Hindi.

Are you heading to plan a budget-friendly holiday? Kerala is one of the best destinations for you. With the lush green hills to the wide coastline, this place of backwaters and coconut groves can give you a lifetime experience in travelling with the serenity of nature and vividness of culture.
